Asscher Lab-Grown Diamonds

The asscher is a square step cut with deeply cropped corners and a high crown, creating the concentric “hall of mirrors” effect that made it an Art Deco signature. It was patented in Amsterdam in 1902, all but disappeared after the Second World War, and was revived in 2001.

Like all step cuts it shows clarity plainly, and its near-square outline reads smaller per carat than an elongated shape — both worth factoring into the choice. Lab-grown diamonds are chemically, physically and optically identical to mined stones, certified to the same standards and typically 60-80% less per carat. Our lab-grown diamond guide covers the detail. Compare it with every other outline in our diamond shapes guide, and get to grips with what actually drives price in our diamond 4Cs guide. All our stones carry independent laboratory certification and transparent pricing, and our London team will talk you through any of them with no obligation.
