Which wedding ring profile is the most comfortable?
Court, rounded on the inside and the outside, is the most popular for that reason: it slides over the knuckle and does not catch. D-shape is flat inside and domed outside, slimmer on the finger. Flat and flat court are more modern and suit wider rings. Our Plain Wedding Ring Guide shows all nine in cross-section.
How wide should a wedding ring be?
Most women's bands are 2 to 3 mm and most men's 4 to 6 mm, but the right width is the one that suits the hand and sits well beside any other ring worn with it. A wider band fits more tightly, so from about 5 mm you usually need a size larger than a slim ring on the same finger; we allow for this when we size you.
Should my wedding ring match my engagement ring's metal?
Match the metal and the carat if you can: two rings in the same alloy wear at the same rate and keep the same colour. Platinum beside white gold looks the same on day one and different in a few years, when the gold needs replating. The profile and width can differ; the metal is the thing to match.
What if a straight band will not sit flush against my engagement ring?
A shaped-to-fit band follows the line of the engagement ring so the two sit together without a gap. Low-set rings and those with a halo or a wide setting usually need one. Designed as a pair from the start, they sit together better than any later shaping can achieve.
Can you make a wedding ring to fit an engagement ring bought elsewhere?
Yes. Send us the engagement ring, or bring it to a consultation, and we will shape a band to follow it. We need the ring itself, not a photograph, to get the fit right.
Do our wedding rings need to match?
No. Many couples choose the same profile and metal in different widths; others choose two different rings. If you want them to match, we make the pair together so the finish and colour are identical, and we can engrave both.
Can you engrave our wedding rings?
Yes: initials, a date, a short phrase or a signature on the inside of the band. We send a proof before anything is engraved, and hand engraving adds about a week. See our ring engraving page for the options.
When should we order our wedding rings?
Rings are made to order and normally take 3 to 4 weeks from the next working day; allow time for a ring sizer to reach you and for any engraving. Ordering eight weeks before the wedding leaves room for everything, including a resize if a size needs adjusting.
