Marquise Cut Diamonds
The marquise is an elongated brilliant with points at both ends, cut to maximise surface area, so it faces up larger than almost any brilliant shape at the same carat weight. Its boat-like outline dates to the court of Louis XV.
Both points need protecting, and the bow-tie shadow across the centre is worth checking; a length-to-width near 1.90 usually gives the most balanced outline.
