Alexandrite Gemstones
Alexandrite is chrysoberyl that changes colour — green in daylight, red to purple under incandescent light — and the effect is caused by chromium sitting in an unusually narrow window of the spectrum. Fine natural stones are rarer than diamond.
At 8.5 on the Mohs scale it is highly durable, and one of the few genuinely rare stones that is also practical.
