Rose Cut Diamonds
The rose cut has a flat base and a domed crown of triangular facets rising to a point, with no pavilion at all. It dates to the sixteenth century and gives a soft, glassy shimmer rather than sparkle — and it spreads very wide for its weight.
Because there is no pavilion, a rose cut is shallow and looks considerably larger than its carat weight suggests. You can compare natural and lab-grown stones side by side here — chemically and optically identical, differing only in origin and price. Our lab-grown diamond guide explains how the two compare. Compare it with every other outline in our diamond shapes guide, and get to grips with what actually drives price in our diamond 4Cs guide. Each stone is independently graded and openly priced, ready to set into one of our settings or a piece designed from scratch with you.
