Sapphire Gemstones
Sapphire is corundum — 9 on the Mohs scale, second only to diamond — which is why it has been the default alternative to a diamond centre stone for over a century. Best known in cornflower and royal blue, it also occurs in pink, yellow, peach, green and colourless.
That hardness is why sapphire is one of the very few coloured stones genuinely suited to daily wear in an engagement ring. We buy loose so you can choose the stone first and the setting second — see our diamond and gemstone guide for how colour, cut and clarity are judged outside the diamond scale, or which gemstones survive everyday wear if it is going to be worn daily. Each stone is independently graded and openly priced, ready to set into one of our settings or a piece designed from scratch with you.
