Sphene, or titanite, has dispersion higher than diamond — it throws more spectral fire than almost any other gem — in green, gold and brown body colours that seem to shift as the stone moves.

Soft at 5 to 5.5 on the Mohs scale, so sphene belongs in earrings, pendants and occasional-wear rings.
