Topaz Gemstones

Most topaz reaching the market is colourless in the ground, and the blues that dominate the counter are produced by irradiation and heat — a stable, permanent, fully disclosed treatment. Imperial topaz, in peach and sherry tones, occurs naturally and is far rarer.

At 8 on the Mohs scale topaz is hard, but it cleaves cleanly in one direction, so it dislikes sharp knocks. We buy loose so you can choose the stone first and the setting second — see our diamond and gemstone guide for how colour, cut and clarity are judged outside the diamond scale, or which gemstones survive everyday wear if it is going to be worn daily. Every stone is independently certified, priced transparently, and can be set into any ring in our collection or into a design of your own.
