Zircon Gemstones
Natural zircon is an ancient mineral — the oldest known fragments of earth's crust are zircon crystals — with a refractive index and dispersion high enough that a well-cut stone rivals diamond for fire. It has nothing to do with cubic zirconia.
At 6 to 7.5 on the Mohs scale with brittle facet edges, zircon prefers a protective setting.
